Inspired Living Picks: A Fresh Start and Mid-Century Modern Style in Las Vegas

When my husband and I made the bold decision to leave California behind and head East to Las Vegas, we had no idea how much our lives would change. We were looking for new opportunities, a more affordable lifestyle, and a chance to be closer to family. Little did we know, we would fall in love with living in the suburbs of Las Vegas.

The journey to finding our perfect home wasn’t quick or easy. After much searching, we finally found a one-story house with plenty of windows and an outdoor space that didn’t feel boxed in. The open floorplan was exactly what we were hoping for. It felt like a blank canvas—a fresh start. In fact, we decided to sell almost everything we owned and start over with new furniture, new decor, and a new outlook on life. It was a bit daunting, but more than anything, it was a refreshing new beginning, full of possibilities.

Finding Our Style: Mid-Century Modern with a Personal Touch

Once we moved in, we started thinking about the kind of style we wanted in our home. Both of us were drawn to mid-century modern design, with its low-profile furniture and simple, clean lines. We love the idea of keeping things sleek, functional, and timeless. But, we also wanted the space to reflect our personal tastes and provide a calm, inviting atmosphere that would allow us to unwind after our busy days as educators.

Next, it was time to decide on the color palette. After much discussion, we settled on shades of blues, greys, browns, and greens. We chose blue as the dominant color because it evokes a sense of calm and peace. As two people who spend a lot of time in high-energy classrooms, we needed our home to be a sanctuary—a place free from chaos where we could truly relax. The cool, tranquil vibe of blue was exactly what we needed to create that peaceful haven.

A “White Blue” Transformation

We decided to paint the main part of the house and our bedroom in a color we now fondly call “white blue.” It’s a unique shade that sometimes appears more blue, and other times looks almost white, depending on how much light filters through the windows. When we first painted the walls, I started to second-guess our decision. Was it too light? Was it too subtle? Did we make a mistake?

But as time passed and we added wall installations, furniture, and decor, the space started to come together in a way I never imagined.
